CHS Field is a baseball facility located in the heart of downtown Saint Paul, Minnesota. Hamline University has a baseball club that plays in the Triple-A East League, and it is also home to the St. Paul Saints (of Minor League Baseball’s Triple-A East League). After being assigned to the Minnesota Twins in 2021, CHS Field will be the smallest Triple-A stadium in the Minors and the closest (at a distance of 12.9 miles over surface streets and Interstate 94) to its tenant’s parent Major League Baseball team in the United States.

History

The park, which is located in the historic Lowertown District of Saint Paul, was constructed on the site of an industrial-use facility that had been abandoned for many years. During the 2012 legislative session, the Minnesota Legislature authorized funding for the stadium in the amount of $25 million. The remaining US$64 million of the project’s finance was split between the city and the Saints, who each contributed a quarter of the total. Because the Saints’ old stadium, Midway Stadium, had become dilapidated, the development of this new ballpark was driven in part by the deteriorating condition of Midway Stadium, which had been erected in 1982.

An official groundbreaking ceremony was organized by the Saints on May 10, 2014, during which the first concrete was poured at the construction site.

The Saints played their debut game at the park on May 18, 2015, in an exhibition match against the Sioux City Explorers.

During the American Association All-Star Game on August 2, 2016, CHS Field served as the site.

Ballpark features

A grassy picnic area known as “The Lawn” is located just beyond left field and has seating for 1,000 people. The picnic area, which is intended for large parties, has a buffet-style selection of cuisine. The CHS Field facility also has a number of ecologically friendly elements. Solar panels on the roof of the stadium provide an estimated 12 percent of the stadium’s power. The park’s sprinklers and bathrooms are supplied with water by a 27,000-gallon rainwater collection. Biking to the park is encouraged, and 24 bike racks have been installed on Broadway Street, just adjacent to the park.

The Saints will showcase the Triple-AAA talent pool of the Minnesota Twins in 2022, and CHS Field will continue to be a place of imaginative and irreverent enjoyment for everybody. It is advised, but not needed, to purchase tickets in advance.

CHS Field / St. Paul Saints

Through an innovative design and meticulous attention to detail, CHS Field, the new home of the St. Paul Saints (independent; American Association), is poised to be among the most notable ballparks in all of baseball in the near future. CHS Field is a puzzlebox of a ballpark: just when you think you’ve seen it all, another startling aspect pops out to throw you for a loop. Not a stadium that stands up and demands attention; rather, it is a ballpark that woos and encourages visitors to come into it.

Paul’s Lowertown neighborhood without overpowering the historic architecture in the region.

In a similar vein, the ballpark is easily visible from Interstate 94 — but only at eye level, thanks to tasteful signage.

Paul was the starting point for the city’s commercial history; it was the location where entrepreneurs first began moving products up and down the Mississippi River, and it was the location where James J.

In recent years, many of these ancient warehouses have been refurbished, and now Lowertown is growing as an exciting new area, complete with fashionable restaurants (such as Heartland and Bulldog) and public transportation (which begins in historic Union Depot) as well as several other facilities.

  1. CHS Field is located in the northeast corner of Lowertown, surrounded by a highway, a large bridge, old warehouses, and, most importantly, the St.
  2. The field is a little more than 10 acres in size and is home to the Minnesota Vikings.
  3. You can see the change from your vantage point behind home plate: the right-field walkway, which is a component of the 360-degree concourse, extends straight up to the adjoining building, serving as a reminder that we are still in an urban setting.
  4. Continue going and you’ll come upon a dog park right outside the ballpark, behind home plate, which you may enter.
  5. When it comes to CHS Field, it’s all about the finishes and how they are handled.
  6. It would have been simpler to simply clad the ballpark in red brick and call it a day –as some St.
  7. It does have a brick facade, however the bricks are painted black, and the black wraps around the entire grandstand, but the finishes vary from brick to blackened steel metal plates as you move around the structure.

The use of red cedar as a ceiling and design feature is spectacular, especially at night, when the grandstand concourse is illuminated by indirect lighting that creates a welcoming atmosphere.

The seating is done in various hues of black and grey, with the addition of an occasional yellow seat.

There is no practical rationale for this; it is only there to break up the row lines and make them more attractive.

When the Saints relocated to CHS Field, there were some complaints among the Saints faithful; theMidway Stadiumcrowd, which had backed the Saints from the team’s inception, was enraged at the prospect of losing the particular charms of a substandard municipal ballpark built in the 1980s.

The faithful were anxious that moving to a new ballpark would result in increased fees and a more corporate environment.

Some of their predictions came true: the quirky elements at Midway Stadium — the potted plants, the colorful paintings, the train – have all been removed.

If Midway Stadium was a gathering spot for teenagers and rebels, CHS Field is a gathering place for the cool hipster who enjoys the Lowertown way of living.

What is the secret?

These seats are available for purchase on game day for $5 and provide a fantastic perspective of the action and the grandstand, which is set by a backdrop of Lowertown brick buildings and the downtown St.

That is a spectacular view for $5, with the background changing as the sun sets and the lighting – both inside and outside the ballpark – shifting and shimmering throughout the evening.

During the closing stretches of rush hour, I-94 can be rather noisy, and you know you’re in the city if you’re at a Saints game or anywhere else in the city.

We believe it is possible, but it would have to be a one-of-a-kind foul ball with the exact right trajectory.

Even though the ballpark’s capacity is listed as 7,000, with SRO tickets, that number might be far higher.

A sponsored SRO area spans the length of right field, and it is in in need of new drink rails and other amenities.

A wonderful area to watch a game, this space is decorated in the same red cedar and black details found throughout the rest of the ballpark.

The private bar (pictured above), as well as complimentary food and drink, and valet parking are available to patrons of the establishment.

A multiyear commitment is required, and the cost is prohibitively expensive ($3,500 every season). Customers who purchase tickets in this section sometimes feel like they’re getting the best deal in the house since they gaze out toward the $5 drink rail seats, which are only across the street.

Below the Surface

Although we’ve concentrated on the spectator areas, the behind-the-scenes amenities at CHS Field are an important part of what makes the stadium such a success. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out how terrible the facilities at Midway Stadium were: tiny clubhouses with no amenities, tight offices with items kept in hallways and no hint of sunshine, and storage/laundry space that would put even the most patient clubbie to the test. At CHS Field, though, things are a little different. The team’s service facilities are first-class, and they would be the envy of any Triple-A organization.

  1. Not true: the service area is located underneath the concourse and extends from behind home plate all the way around right field and into center field, where the service/bus/delivery door can be found.
  2. A weight/workout room, a hydrological room, and a huge trainer’s space are all located off the clubhouse, with separate areas for the coaching staff and team management.
  3. The guests’ clubhouse is extremely spacious, and it has a separate fitness area.
  4. At some point in the future, this room will be used as a third clubhouse for high-school and college competitions.
  5. (CHS Field is one of the more environmentally friendly baseball stadiums in the league; for more information, go here.) Access to team offices is also available from this level, which combine individual offices with conference rooms and a huge open space that is surrounded by decks.
  6. These windows also have a view of a sponsored three-tiered group sitting area, which can accommodate around 125 fans.
  7. Paul.

Minneapolis-St. Paul is a city where baseball is still alive and thriving, and CHS Field may be considered a welcome addition to the city’s ballpark landscape.

Food and Drink

Even though we’ve concentrated on the spectator areas, the amenities behind the scenes are a big part of what makes CHS Field such a success. If you spent any time at Midway Stadium as a worker or a player, you are well aware of how deplorable the facilities were: small clubhouses with no amenities, cramped offices with merchandise stored in the hallways and no hint of sunlight, and storage/laundry space that would test the patience of even the most patient of clubbies In contrast, CHS Field is a whole other story.

  1. (Service facilities in independent baseball are dispersed around the league; some clubs use temporary structures as clubhouses to save money.) When you look at it closely, CHS Field appears to be three independent structures: the grandstand, team store/offices and concessions at center field.
  2. Not true: the service area is located underneath the concourse and extends from beyond home plate all the way around right field and into center field, where the service/bus/delivery door is situated.
  3. A weight/workout room, a hydrological room, and a huge trainer’s area are all located off the clubhouse, with separate spaces for the coaching staff and team management.
  4. Additionally, there is a huge visitors’ clubhouse, which includes a fitness center.
  5. Upcoming high school and college competitions will be held in this facility, which will serve as a third clubhouse.
  6. CHS Field is one of the greenest baseball stadiums in the league, as you can read about here.
  7. Because of the large windows that allow for lots of natural light during the day, this location has a beautiful view of right field.
  8. Minneapolis-St.
  9. Located at the other end of the Green Line light rail line from Target Field, CHS Field is an excellent bookend; you won’t find a better combination of ballparks anyplace else in the Twin Cities.

Minneapolis-St. Paul is a city where baseball is still alive and strong, and CHS Field is a welcome addition to the city’s ballpark scene.

For the Kids

Although this is an adult-oriented ballpark, there are two areas that have been specifically designed with children in mind: the left-field berm and a center-field play area behind the batter’s eye. And what kid would pass up a cheap hot dog or a shake from Snuffy’s on the way home from school?

St Paul Saints

It’s difficult to know where to begin on game day because there is so much going on. If you arrive early, I recommend that you start with a little tailgating before the game. Do not be concerned if you are not prepared since there is usually a party taking on in front of the pitch.

Tailgating

The first few minutes of game day might be difficult to navigate due to the abundance of activities that are taking place. If you arrive early, I recommend that you start with a little tailgating before heading inside the stadium. Do not be concerned if you are not prepared; there is usually a party taking place in front of the pitch.

City Of Baseball Museum

During your downtime before the game, pay a visit to the City of Baseball Museum, which is located within CHS Field on the Third Base side of the field. It’s completely free and has air conditioning! When compared to what’s on the inside, those are insignificant advantages. Any baseball enthusiast will enjoy seeing the memorabilia from previous leagues, which will be displayed throughout the museum. I was surprised to learn how much baseball has played a role in the history of Minnesota. Refer to the following: In the Twin Cities, there are over 28 free museums to visit.

In Game Entertainment

The St. Paul Saints Games have a reputation for being a lot of fun, and this is no exception. In between innings, there will be games and other activities to keep the game interesting. Minnesotans’ perception of baseball has shifted as a result of the Saints. They have a group of persons that are committed to providing entertainment for the crowds. This goes above and beyond the traditional fuzzy mascot. But don’t be concerned, since they have a Pig named Mudonna to take over for you. These have an additional set of performers that come out throughout the game and in between innings to keep you entertained and interested.

  • These celebrities are out in the stands with you, serving as cheerleaders for the team you support.
  • We went to the Disco Premonition Night, which was really fun.
  • It was planned for fans to bring their disco records and have them blown up in between games of a doubleheader.
  • The Saints demonstrated their appreciation for disco by hosting a post-game dance party on the field for everybody in attendance.

Food

The St Paul Saints provide a wide variety of delicious cuisine options that will leave you with a watering mouth. Themes vary from concession stand to concession stand, but standard favorites such as chicken fingers and hot dogs are available at all of them. Even Philly Cheese Steak sandwiches and Chicago Dogs were on the menu when we arrived. Everything smelled just as amazing as it tasted, and it was. Outside food and beverages are not permitted at the Saints’ facilities. The sole exception is a bottle of water that has been properly sealed.

They provide the ability to purchase items such as beers, sodas, and light snacks such as candy using their mobile app.

How to get to CHS Field?

CHS Field is located in the middle of a jumble of several freeways, and across the street from the St. Paul Farmers Market. The quickest and most convenient method to get there is by car or, if you live in the vicinity, by bicycle.

Parking

There are parking areas all around the stadium for fans to use. Because most of their parking lots are not directly next to the field, they use Capitol City Pedicabs to transport you to your parking spot. We were able to secure a parking place on Prince Street, directly in front of the tailgating area. It cost only $10 for a parking space right adjacent to the field.

Train

In terms of transportation, unlike other stadiums, they do not have a light rail station in front of the stadium. The most direct route is to take the Green Line to Union Depot and then walk four blocks to the stadium from there. MetroTransit.org contains all of the information you need to determine the best route for you. Don’t worry, it’s only a short distance away. There were a few days this year, as there have been in prior years, where you could ride for free. For further information, please visit the website listed above.

Scooter

The CHS field is also accessible by scooter from anyplace in the city of St. Paul, which I find hard to believe at this point. Download theLimeorBirdapps, which can be found on a scooter near the stadium, and then ride over to the stadium. It is a reasonably affordable mode of transportation across the city. Refer to the following: How to Navigate the MPLS Skyways Like a Pro

TicketsDiscounts

Regular-seat tickets for a Saints game cost from $5 to $18 for regular-seat seats. Capitol Box and Club level seating are available, with prices ranging from $28 to $130 per ticket depending on the quality of service. If you want a nice seat at a game, you won’t have to spend more than $18 to get one. The berm is the most affordable seating option. The berm is a grassy area behind the bullpens that is used for grazing. These tickets are only available on game day and are ideal for little children who may be looking to stretch their legs and get their wiggles out before the game.

Behind the berm is also the most advantageous location for selecting Drink Rail seats.

These seats must be reserved in advance. Special Days, such as Fridays, which include a post-game fireworks display, will have prices ranging from $7 to $15. Seating on the rails Seating on the Berm Seating in the berms during game time

The Saint Paul Saints take great satisfaction in giving the most value for money in the Twin Cities entertainment market. As much as I like taking my family to baseball games, major league games are not always in our financial reach as a six-person family on a budget. The Saint Paul Saints, on the other hand, are a reliable alternative with tickets starting at $5.00 for berm seats and surprisingly reasonable snacks.

Finding the Kids Play Area During the Game

The HealthPartners PowerUp Play Zone is the name of the children’s play area at CHS Field. On the concourse, you’ll find it behind the black center field wall, to the right of the entrance.

Finding the Mother’s Room During the Game

The Mother’s Nursing Room is available to women who are breastfeeding or who just wish to nurse their infant in privacy while watching a game. It may be found behind Section 116.

Finding the Family Restrooms at CHS Field

At CHS Field, there are two Family Restrooms to choose from. They are placed in the vicinity of Sections 107 and 112 of the building.

CHS Field Stroller Policy

When attending a Saints game, strollers are permitted; however, there is no designated stroller parking space, so you will want to bring your smallest folding stroller. They must be folded neatly under your seat while you are watching the game on television. Parking in the aisles is not permitted.

Outside FoodBeverages at CHS Field

Outside food and beverages (with the exception of water bottles that have been sealed) are not permitted. In response to my question during a game, I was told that the Saints are rather loose regarding this guideline, but that concessions benefit the team and are often reasonably priced.

Tailgating at the Saint Paul Saints Games

An official tailgating area is provided by the Saints at the corner of Lafayette Street and Prince Street, which is off Kellogg Boulevard, just a few blocks from the stadium. Grills, food, and beverages are all permitted on the parking lot, which has a $8.00 fee. Parking is $8.00. The Families of the FFTC during the All-Star Game

Saint Paul Saints 2021 Ticket Prices

In 2021, it appears that tickets will cost more than $17. There were no pricing overviews to be found this year, which was disappointing. Choose your game and seating preference, and pricing will be displayed. It doesn’t appear to make a difference where you sit (with the exception of box seats) or what night you go. As a result, this year may be an excellent time to purchase Friday night Fireworks tickets and select seats wherever you prefer. I believe that the rise in pricing is due to capacity restrictions.

It is possible that price will change when limitations are relaxed.

Saint Paul Saints Berm Seats

The berm seats are located on a grassy slope overlooking the bullpen, behind left field, and are accessible by stairs. These are the tickets that are available to anybody for $5 (although they look to be $17 in 2021). Tickets for the berm may only be purchased in person on the day of the match (in 2021 they are available in advance). If you are willing to be flexible and/or work around the emotions of your children, purchasing tickets on the day of the event may be your best option.
