What is St Germain?

St Germain is a liqueur that is manufactured from elderflowers, which are the little white blooms of an elderberry plant that are used to make it. It has the appearance of a liqueur that has been prepared for years by French monks, such as Chartreuse, thanks to its magnificent vintage bottle. However, it turns out to be a lot more up to date than you may assume. It was created in 2007 by a guy called Rob Cooper who was inspired by a handmade cocktail he had at a London pub that used elderflower syrup.

In his previous job, he worked in the liquor industry and pondered whether it was possible to create a liqueur that captured the amazing sweet and flowery flavor of the fruit.

What does St Germain taste like?

St Germain has gained widespread popularity since there is nothing else quite like it. Description

This St. Germain champagne cocktail combines elderflower liqueur with champagne, lemon, and gin for a refreshing and flavorful drink. A refined bubbly beverage that is appropriate for any occasion!

  • A half ounce(2 tablespoons) St Germain, one ounce(2 tablespoons) gin, 12 ounce(1 tablespoon) lemon juice, 12 ounce(1 tablespoon) simple syrup or pure maple syrup, three ounces(6 tablespoons) champagne (approximately one and a half glasses)*
  1. In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine the St. Germain, gin, lemon juice, and syrup. Shake well. Shake for 15 seconds or until the water is cold. Pour the liquid into a champagne flute and top up the glass with champagne
  2. Serve immediately (no need to measure). Garnish with fresh herbs and serve. NOTE: If you prefer, you may prepare a big quantity of the St. Germain-infused vodka with lemon juice and syrup ahead of time and then measure out 6 tablespoons per glass when serving.

St-Germain (liqueur) – Wikipedia

St-Germain liqueur made from elderflowers An elderflower liqueur named after St. Germain. It is created from the petals of theSambucus nigra flower, which grows in the Savoie area of France. Petals are gathered once a year in the spring over a period of three to four weeks, and they are frequently transported by bicycle to collecting stations in order to avoid injuring the petals, which would have an adverse effect on their flavor. Each container is labeled with a unique number that corresponds to the year the petals were harvested.

History

After sampling an elderflower-based cocktail in a London pub in 2001, distiller Robert Cooper, the son of Norton Cooper, the owner ofCharles Jacquin & Cie, came up with the idea for St-Germain. It was named after the Paris neighborhood of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, which was a hive of bohemian activity and invention during theBelle Époque, and the bottle was influenced by Art Deco elements. Cooper Spirits Co., which was created in 2006 and has its headquarters in New York, introduced St-Germain to the market in 2007.

Robert Cooper died in 2016 at the age of 39, according to his obituary.

A second edition, Fleuriste St-Germain, will debut in New York City in August 2021, as a result of a cooperation between ballet dancer James Whiteside and director Laura Kim, among other people.

St Germain Elderflower Liqueur

Vintage:Non-vintage Aged:Unaged France is the source of this product. With its characteristic Belle Epoque-style bottle, St-Germain is the world’s first elderflower liqueur. It is created with hand-selected elderflower petals macerated in grape neutral spirit within 48 hours of being gathered, and is sweetened with 180g sugar per litre. Traditionally, the fresh elderflowers used to manufacture St-Germain are picked from the foothills of the French Alps, in the region of Haute-Savoie, where elder trees flourish in profusion.

What On Earth is St-Germain?

Was Kate Latts’ piece on the FACES of Louisville read by everyone? Considering that she is the Director of Marketing for Heaven Hill, I inquired as to what her favorite drink was that was not made using her company’s products. Her response was a glass of St. Germain and champagne. It has been some years since I first observed that St-Germain (pronounced like Saint Germaine) is a popular cocktail ingredient on the menus of many establishments. What is it, and why does it appear to be everywhere?

  1. I reached out to my drink expert Josh Durr, my bartender bootcamp teacher from Hawthorn Beverage Group, in order to benefit from his encyclopedic knowledge of all things involving alcohol.
  2. It was created by a guy by the name of Rob Cooper.
  3. In 2006, Chambord was sold to Brown-Forman, which is a well-known name in the spirits industry.
  4. About a year later, Rob’s brother John came up with the idea for a ginger liqueur named Domaine de Canton.

  6. Apparently, a limited number of farmers harvest these flowers, which are then bicycled into town to be pressed, according to the company’s website.

The Nibble: St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur

This magnificent liqueur may be created from Alpine elderflowers, but any connoisseur would immediately recognize the flavor as “lychee!” Elderflower liqueur (elderflower cordial) is a delightful sipping beverage on its own, but when mixed with a splash of Champagne or club soda, it becomes a refreshing summer drink. Served over fruit and sorbet, it was delectable. The elderflower liqueur from St. Germain is a delightful treat whether you’re heading to the pool or arranging a nice supper. As beautiful as any perfume bottle, the 12-inch-tall container makes a striking presentation and is an excellent gift.

Let’s Get Botanical

When we first heard the phrase “elderflowers,” we imagined ourselves transported to the Alpine meadows of the film “The Sound of Music.” Then we realized what we were looking at: edelweiss, notelderflower. However, they are both grown on the foothills of the Alps and appear to be distant relatives. Despite the fact that the elderflower (familyAdoxaceae, genusSambucus nigra) and the edelweiss (familyAsteraceae, genus/speciesLeontopodium nivale) belong to completely distinct botanical families, this is the case.

After the blossoms have finished blooming, delicious elderberries will begin to emerge.

Elderflowers Taste Like Lychee: So Delicious!)

Flowers are edible, or at the very least palatable when converted into liqueur, and are as beautiful to look at as they are to consume. Locals handpick the blooms, which are then distilled in small quantities into an elderflower blossom 40-proof liqueur manufactured by the French artisan firm St. Germain, which is made entirely of elderflower blossoms. You open the bottle and are instantly greeted by the most delightful of lychee scents! A hint of peach, a hint of orange that develops into grapefruit, and perhaps a hint of pear are present, but this is lychee nirvana.

Cooking With St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur

Consider St. Germain in the same way that you would Grand Marnier or other liqueurs that you cook with, and feel free to use it in place of those other liqueurs in recipes. Here’s what we came up with: Aperitif: Combine with fresh goat cheese (or any fresh cheese) in dips, on crostini, or packed inside kumquats and peppadews for an aperitif. Sauces for seafood, deglazing pan, grilled seafood: Combine with butter or olive oil and brush onto cooked fish; also add to sauces for seafood; A little amount to rice (along with optional lemon or orange zest) and mashed sweet potatoes make a delicious side dish.

Desserts: Pour over lemon, orange, or pineapple sorbet or vanilla ice cream (or other tastes from the berry or citrus family); create elderflower “snow cones” by pouring over shaved ice in a martini glass; great served with roasted pineapple (or other flavors from the berry or citrus family).

St. Germain Liqueur Cocktails

  • A cocktail made with two shots of vodka or gin, one to twelve shots of St. Germain liqueur, and one-fourth shot dry vermouth or dry white wine.

Directions

  1. Shake all of the ingredients with ice, then fine pour into a cold martini glass
  2. Serve immediately. Serve with a twist of lemon or orange as a garnish.
Elderflower Collins. Elderflower CollinsIngredients

  • St. Germain Liqueur
  • 2 shots dry white wine (Sauvignon Blanc is best)
  • 2 shots sparkling wine (Champagne, Prosecco)
  • 2 shots grenadine liqueur To finish, 2 to 3 shots of club soda are recommended.

A cocktail consisting of two shots of St. Germain liqueur, two shots of dry white wine (Sauvignon Blanc is best), and two shots of sparkling wine (Champagne or Prosecco). To finish, add 2 to 3 shots of club soda.

  1. In a collins glass filled with ice, combine the ingredients
  2. Stir well. Stir well to ensure total mixing
  3. Garnish with a lemon wheel, if desired.
  • 1-1/2 shots St. Germain liqueur

  • 1-1.12 shots green apple vodka or pear vodka
  • 2 shots St. Germain liqueur
  • 14 shot freshly squeezed lemon juice, or squeeze 2 lemon wedges
  • 1-1.12 shots green apple vodka or pear vodka

Directions

  1. Using ice, shake the cocktail and pour it into a chilled martini glass Serve with a thin apple or pear slice as a garnish.
  • 15-ounce glass of champagne
  • 1 shot St. Germain liqueur
  • 14-ounce glass of freshly squeezed lemon juice

Directions

  1. Fill a chilled flute halfway with the first two ingredients
  2. Stir well. Finish with a glass of Champagne
  3. Serve with a twist of lemon for garnish.
  • 10 mint leaves
  • 2 shots white light rum
  • 2 shots St. Germain liqueur
  • 1 shot freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 10 mint leaves Optional: To taste, add simple syrup to the mixture.

Directions

  1. In a collins glass, lightly muddle the mint leaves. Add in the rest of the ingredients. Fill the glass halfway with crushed ice and whisk well. Fill the glass to the brim with extra crushed ice and give it another swirl. Serve with a slice of lime for garnish.
  • A cocktail made with two shots of St. Germain liqueur, two shots of dry white wine (Sauvignon Blanc is best), or two shots of sparkling wine (Champagne or Prosecco)
  • Add 2 to 3 shots of club soda to finish it off.

  1. In a collins glass filled with ice, combine the ingredients
  2. Stir well. Stir well to ensure total mixing
  3. Serve with a twist of lemon for garnish.

  • Champagne or sparkling wine (optional).

Directions

  1. Pour all of the ingredients into a chilled flute or coupette (sometimes known as a “margarita glass”)
  2. Stir well. Stir either gently or not at all, so as not to disturb the Champagne bubbles, and serve immediately. Decorate with a half or full strawberry that has been placed into the rim of the glass.
  • 14 shot freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1 shot St. Germain liqueur
  • 11-12 shot vodka
  • 12 shot pineapple juice
  • 14 shot fresh squeezed lime juice

Directions

  1. Shake all of the ingredients with ice and serve into a cold martini glass, then garnish with a cherry. Serve with a slice of pineapple or a wedge of lime for garnish.
