This powerful prayer is frequently recited by police officers in order to protect them from the numerous hazards they encounter in the course of their duties. The gift of a St. Michael devotional item to someone who works in law enforcement is a heartfelt way to bring them the serenity and comfort of knowing that they will have a warrior and “The Prince of the Heavenly Host” at their side at all times.

If so, do they take Saint Michael around with them at all times when they are on the job?

The Best Things To Do On St. Thomas: Where To Stay, Eat, And Play

The Caribbean island of St. Thomas is part of the territory of the United States Virgin Islands. It was acquired from Denmark in 1917 for a sum of $25 million in gold, and the capital is named Charlotte Amalie in honor of King Christian V of Denmark’s wife, Princess Charlotte Amalie. Citizens of the United States do not require a passport to visit. The hurricane season in the US Virgin Islands runs from June to November, thus any time outside of that period is an excellent time to come. St. Thomas is a popular cruise ship stop, but you only have a few hours to see and do everything there is to see.

Renting a car, going on one of the many excursions available (ranging from visiting the island to shopping to water activities), or using one of the traditional, brightly colored taxis are all options for getting about.

The dollar safari bus system, which is equally popular with the locals, is an alternative that is much more entertaining.

Things To Do And See On St. Thomas

For the energetic 50+ traveler who wants to enjoy beaches, coral reefs, the World Amber Museum, and isn’t afraid to attempt zip-lining, the Caribbean island of St. Thomas is the perfect place to visit. Nothing prevents you from alternately taking a stroll around charming Charlotte Amalie, learning about the island’s fascinating history at Blackbeard’s Castle, and, of course, shopping till you drop at one of the island’s several duty-free shopping malls.

Charlotte Amalie

When a cruise ship approached, I had my first look of the island’s capital, the vibrant Charlotte Amalie, which was my first stop. When we arrived, we moored at the Havensight Cruise Ship Dock, which is a short 20-minute walk from the center of town. I skipped the guided tours and cab rides and instead walked down the shoreline, arriving at all of the big attractions before everyone else! The Long Bay Waterfront is a pedestrian walkway that connects downtown Charlotte Amalie to the Long Bay Waterfront Park.

The island’s deepwater harbor, which was established in 1666, served as a sanctuary for pirates, and you’ll discover plenty of evidence of that past.

The 99 Steps

To get around the slopes of Charlotte Amalie, the Danes built a number of steep stairways, the most renowned of which being the 99 Steps. The stairway, which was formerly known as Store Taarne Gadeor (also known as “Greater Tower Street”), finally leads to Blackbeard’s Castle. Because the bricks used to construct it were originally used as ballast in Danish sailing ships, you are literally walking on history. It’s a steep climb, but it’s not too exhausting because the stairs are shallow. It’s surrounded by flowers and tropical vegetation.

The World Amber Museum

The most striking feature of this one-of-a-kind museum, which is housed in the Hotel 1829, is a waterfall at the entry, which is made out of 12,000 pieces of amber in various shades, with water falling over them and making them shimmer in the sunlight. Also on display are priceless antique items from St. Petersburg, things crafted from green Caribbean amber, and contemporary moveable sculptures from throughout the world. In order to leave the museum store without purchasing at least one piece of the handcrafted silver jewelry set, you must purchase a ticket to the museum.

Blackbeard’s Castle

There are nine acres of land on top of Government Hill, which may be reached by rising a few more stairs after passing through the 99 intersection. Skytsborg Tower, which dates back to the 17th century and was formerly known as Skytsborg Tower, is the dominant structure on the island, which was built to defend and safeguard the island from enemies and pirates. Fort Christian, which was located at sea level, provided the same function. According to legend, Edward Teach, a pirate from the 18th century, used to hide his wealth here, and as a result, the area was called after him and his black beard.

Keep in mind that the island of St.

The roof of the tower has been partially blown off, but Blackbeard still stands tall.

However, the facility is now closed owing to substantial rehabilitation work being carried out. Please check their website to find out when they will be re-opening to the general public. Studio Barcelona courtesy of Shutterstock

Magens Bay Beach

Magens Bay Beach, which is located on the island’s northern shore, is undoubtedly the most well-known and, as a result, the most often visited beach on the island. It’s a mile-long strip of fine, white sand sheltered by hills, which means the sea is normally quiet and great for swimming. It’s located just over the mountains from downtown Charlotte Amalie. A $5 admission fee is imposed to cover the costs of maintaining the beach and its amenities such as showers and loungers. Some of the shacks sell food and beverages, and there are picnic tables available.

Coral World Ocean Park

Five acres of tropical scenery, aquariums, pools, and walking paths will provide you with a unique experience of the Caribbean’s aquatic world that will be hard to top. Visit Coki Beach to see dolphins and sea lions swimming in the water, or explore reefs without the need for scuba equipment. It is possible to spend hours here learning and having fun with the whole family.

Drake’s Seat

What makes St. Thomas such an interesting destination isn’t only the beaches, but also the life that exists in, on, and beneath the ocean. There are also mountains, as well as things to do and see in and around them. Drake’s Seat offers a panoramic view of the coast and Magens Beach, and it’s a great place to take a break. It was Arthur Fairchild who built the blue bench in 1933, at a period when most people traveled around the island either on horseback or on foot, and who saw this as an attractive area to take a break.

Skyride To Paradise Point

What makes St. Thomas such a fascinating destination isn’t just the beaches, but also the variety of life in, on, and beneath the ocean. Additionally, there are mountains and things to do and see in those locations. Drake’s Seat is a scenic lookout point that provides a panoramic view of the coast and Magens Beach. During a period when most travel on the island was done on horseback or on foot, Arthur Fairchild built the blue bench because he believed it was a beautiful spot to relax. It was here, however, that Sir Francis Drake, a 16th-century adventurer and pirate, used to stand guard while Spanish ships carrying important cargo departed the harbour, allowing him to assault and pillage them later at sea, according to local folklore.

Tree-Lining Experience

Do you want to feel the rush of adrenaline?

Continue on to the rainforest at St. Peter Mountains, where you may take a breath-taking (but safe) zip-line ride over the tops of jungle trees, providing yet another spectacular perspective of the island and ocean.

Snorkeling And Scuba Diving

Aquatic sports of any kind are the most popular pastimes on St. Thomas, outstripping every other activity on the island. There are various excellent trips that you may participate in that are tailored to your preferences and level of fitness.
