PITTSBURGH DIOCESAN VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE RULES

1. PLAYER ELIGIBILITY

a) Eighth grade girls and under

b) Varsity (grades 8 and under), JV (grades 6 and under)

c) Player must be enrolled in the sponsoring school

d) Players can’t play on high school teams or in high school tournaments.

2. The Tachikara SV5W has been the designated official Varsity League ball. JV players will use the Tachikara Volley Lite ball.

3. All games must be played in the evening with the exceptions of Saturday and Sunday games. Gym doors open 1 hour prior to the beginning of the match .

4. Players must have numbered jerseys of the same color. Numbers on the front and back. The jersey of the libero must be a distinctly different color the team uniform colors.

5. The league will follow the PIAA rules with the noted exceptions:

a. The height of the net will stand at 7 feet

b. There will be unlimited substitution as long as the player returns into the game for the same position from which she left.

c. A serve my not be blocked or attacked.

d. Scoring format for Varsity will be as follows:

1. 3 out of 5 games

2. 25 point games (no cap)

3. 15 point deciding game (no cap)

4. 2 time outs per game

e. Scoring format for JV matches will be as follows:

1. 2 out of 3 games

2. 25 point games (no cap)

3. 15 point deciding game (no cap)

4. 2 time outs per game

5. Game 3 will be played out for every match

6. Players must wear knee pads during all play

7. No tomahawking balls, spiking on serve reception or free balls.

8. No third time outs will be awarded when the score is tied at 14 or 24.

9. There will be a 20 minute warm up period between JV and V matches:

10 minutes warm up on each side during which captains meet for coin toss

5 min. serving team warm up full court

5 min receiving team warm up full court

10. Once games are scheduled they CAN’T be changed. If a team can’t make the date of the match, that team will forfeit.
