Dear Parents, Guardians, Students and Parishioners of St. Margaret of Scotland School,
I am honored and excited to introduce myself as the new principal of St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic School. I have a tremendous love and passion for Catholic Education. I believe that here at St. Margaret’s we have the opportunity to educate the total child; academically, socially and most importantly spiritually. Having the opportunity to work in a Catholic School is not a job to me, but it is truly my vocation. In the few interactions I have had with staff and families I have received such a warm welcome and it’s clear that St. Margaret’s is truly a special place.
I come to St. Margaret’s with 17 years of experience in the field of education. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where I also minored in Urban Education. I went on to earn my first Master of Science in Education degree in Instructional Technology at Duquesne University. I achieved my second Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership and Administration at Westminster College. I spent 11 years in the classroom. I taught for 3 years in the Pittsburgh Public Schools, for 7 years at St. John Neumann Regional Catholic School in Lawrenceville and 1 year at St. Raphael in Morningside. I have been the principal at St. Raphael School for the past six years and I am a certified Principal (PK-12) through the state of Pennsylvania.
I am also excited to announce that we have hired a new school secretary, Mrs. Karen Milkowski. She worked as the school secretary at St. Raphael for the past 5 years. She also worked in the Business Office for the Sisters of St. Francis, which handled Mount Alvernia High School and Day Care.
There are so many wonderful things happening at St. Margaret’s and I would like to continue to build on those successes. Communication, integrating technology throughout the curriculum and promoting a positive school culture are some of our goals. I will be writing a weekly newsletter that will be sent home to families. We are in the process of updating the school website. Once the school year begins, as part of my regular routine, you will see me welcoming the students in the morning in front of the school, on the playground during recess and after-school during dismissal making sure the students depart safely.
I’m looking forward to meeting and working with all of our students and families and becoming part of the St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic School Community. The school office will be open in for the remainder of the summer. The hours will be Monday – Friday 9am – 2pm in July and 8am-4pm in August. Please stop in and say hello. The first day of school is Monday, August 28, 2017. An updated school calendar will be available shortly. Enjoy the rest of your summer and I’m excited to be a Mustang!
Mr. Munz, Principal
